Do you have scrap tires that need to be properly disposed of and recycled? A Scrap Tire Drop Off in Sussex County is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25, sponsored by the Division of Air & Waste Management's Scrap Tire Control and Cleanup Program. Delaware residents may drop off up to 10 passenger or light duty truck tires in Sussex County at the Delaware Solid Waste Authority’s Route 5 Transfer Station. Tires will be recycled in partnership with the Delaware Solid Waste Authority and Independent Disposal Services.
Location: On Route 5 near Fairmont, between Hollyville and Beaver Dam Roads
Date: Oct. 25. Hours: 7 a.m. - 2 p.m., rain or shine. Proof of Residency Required: A driver’s license or utility bill. Sorry, but larger tires, tires on rims, or bicycle tires will not be accepted. Fox Point's Phase II
nearer to 'paydirt'
A convoy of dirt-laden dump trucks rumbled down the pothole-riddled road to Fox Point State Park in Edgemoor, as many as 600 truckloads per day, all contributing to Phase II of the state park's remediation and expansion project. Much of the dirt needed for remediation at the park came from the Delaware Department of Transportation's (DelDOT's) flood-control redevelopment project in Glenville, where a 52-acre wetlands habitat is being created. This supply of clean dirt, combined with fill previously provided by Corrado-American Inc., the contractor at Fox Point State Park, has saved millions of dollars on the project and considerably shortened the completion date. DNREC site cleanup is "key" to a new Habitat for Humanity home
New homeowner Kia Scott receives a ceremonial key after two of DNREC's Division of Air & Waste Management branches – Site Investigation and Restoration Branch (SIRB) and Tank Management Branch – recently partnered with Habitat for Humanity on a new housing development in Wilmington. Habitat erected the new Greenbridge housing site after DNREC had cleaned up contamination from the property's longtime use as a heavy equipment and salvage business. |
