Yard waste can no longer be disposed of or mixed with household trash in northern New Castle County. But there are good environmental options for where it can go, such as DNREC's three yard waste drop-off sites in New Castle County.

The newest of the sites, The Brandywine Hundred site joins the Polly Drummond Hill Road and Mid-County sites in welcoming residents' clippings, trimmings, tree limbs and fallen foliage.

Groundwater remedy construction was completed earlier this year at the former Metachem/Standard Chlorine site near Delaware City. Excavation reached 90 feet below ground to enable a slurry wall to be built as an interim groundwater remedy. Read more about construction of the containment wall and an update about the Metachem cleanup.

Delaware produces over 750,000 scrap tires a year. Too many of them are dumped in piles, presenting a number of environmental, health and safety hazards. The Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Branch now has a program for the cleanup of tire piles – click here to learn more about it.
