VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE 5TH ANNUAL ACORN COLLECTION DAY ON OCT. 10 - Volunteers are needed for DNREC’s 5th Annual Acorn Collection Day being held from 9 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Oct. 10. Volunteers will collect acorns from places where seedlings would not generally be able to grow – along trail edges, open spaces and roadsides – at Lums Pond, Trap Pond and the Smyrna Rest Area. Acorn Collection Day is the perfect opportunity for families and youth groups to volunteer, gain community service hours and help Delaware’s environment. PUBLIC HEARING TO CONSIDER ADOPTION OF PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO DELAWARE REGULATIONS GOVERNING HAZARDOUS WASTE – The Solid Hazardous Waste Management Branch (SHWMB) will hold a public Hearing to consider adoption of proposed amendments to Delaware’s Regulations Governing Hazardous Waste (RGHW). BROWNFIELDS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM – The Division’s Brownfields Development Program encourages the cleanup and redevelopment of vacant, abandoned or underutilized properties which may be contaminated. A party seeking to develop such a property negotiates with the Division's Site Investigation and Restoration Branch (SIRB) for a Brownfields Development Agreement (BDA) or a Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) Agreement to perform an investigation and, if necessary, a remedial action or remedy, for the purpose of addressing the risks posed by past releases of hazardous substances at these sites. AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT PERMITTING PROGRAM – Notice has been given that the facilities listed below have submitted applications for air quality management permits. The applications, the “draft/proposed” permits, all materials that the applicant has submitted (other than those granted confidential treatment under DNREC rules), and a copy of summary of other materials, if any, considered in preparing the “draft/proposed” permit may be inspected at the offices of the Division of Air and Waste Management, 156 S. TITLE V MODIFICATION APPLICATIONS - Notice is hereby given that Delaware Solid Waste Authority’s Cherry Island Landfill having a facility at 1706 E. 12th Street, Wilmington, has submitted a request for significant permit modification pursuant to 7 DE Admin. Code 1130, Section 7 for operating permit: AQM-003/00111-Renewal 1(Revision 1). Along with minor changes of permit conditions, this “draft/proposed” significant permit modification incorporates the conditions of an existing operating permit for two Low-NOx enclosed flares with a hydrogen sulfide pretreatment system. Eagle Group (Metal Masters Foodservice Equipment Company, Inc.) has submitted an application, pursuant to 7 DE Admin. Code 1102, Section 2.1, 11.2(i), and 12.3 for permit amendment at 100 Industrial Blvd., Clayton. Eagle Group requests a limit on paint usage and hours of operation for their Paint Spray Booth and Associated Paint Spraying Operation. These limits are necessary to restrict Eagle Groups potential to emit air pollutants, and the limit will be enforceable by the EPA and the state. Total estimated emissions from the facility are PM10 = 1.5 tons per year and VOC = 1.80 tons per year. A public hearing concerning the permitting action will not be held unless the Secretary of DNREC receives a request by October 13, 2009.
