Message from the Chief of the Environmental Crimes Unit

I'm Chief of DNREC's Environmental Crimes Unit (ECU) William "Chip" McDaniel, and I would like to thank you for visiting the Division of Air and Waste Management's ECU web site.
The Environmental Crimes Unit (formerly known as the Enforcement Section) is responsible for enforcing criminal provisions of Delaware’s pollution laws, including regulations promulgated by the Division of Water Resources, the Division of Soil and Water Conservation, and the Division of Air and Waste Management.
My staff is a highly-trained group of individuals who are committed to protecting the natural resources of Delaware. Our duties include conducting proactive patrols and investigating citizen complaints.
In addition to our enforcement responsibilities, sworn Environmental Crime Unit officers are members of the State Emergency Response Team (SERT). We respond 24 hours a day to environmental emergencies and hazardous materials incidents that occur at fixed industrial facilities, waterways, railways and on Delaware roadways.
I take great pride in the accomplishments of the unit and invite you to browse the enforcement pages linked through this web site so that you may learn more about the important work we do.
